PROFESSIONAL REVIEWS OF PUREDISTANCE PAPILIO

The Scented Hound
‘Sometimes a beautiful perfume is hard to put into words, but instead describing its persona is the best way to give it life in words. Papilio is incredibly soft and somewhat demure and unassuming, but at the same time it embodies strength and beauty. And most of all, it’s absolutely gorgeous!’

@The_V_Scentt
‘I know each and every one of the brand’s creations, and I can assure you that Papilio is on par with the best puredistance florals. Papilio opens with a citrus note of bergamot, tremendously natural and full of vitality. It gradually lets floral tones enter the olfactory spectrum, where neroli and magnolia are clearly perceived, and a creamy orris in the background.’

Perfumart
‘On the skin, Papilio is multifaceted and unfolds between flowers, wood and leather. The fragrance opens with a delicate floral-green mist with a slightly earthy effect, where the brightness of the neroli is muffled by smoky nuances.’

Cafleurebon – Nicoleta Tomsa
‘The butterfly effect is real, and I’m holding one of its manifestations in my palm, feeling the threads of possibilities tie up into a knot in time, so aware of the journey and so thankful for the destination.

I can’t think of a better name than Papilio for this fragrance: the delicate filigree of intricate patterns, the gentle flutter that makes the air vibrate, its spectrum of pastel hues – everything about it exudes brightness, lightness, and joie du vivre.’

@Nosefragrances
‘Papilio is complex and hard to describe fully. Its leather dominates the opening for me, but it’s fresh; full of citrus & iris. There’s ambergris and ambroxan, giving Papilio a sweetness. The leather itself feels slick and classy. If you know me, you know I don’t often love full-on leathers and I don’t think it will register as such for most people. So what makes Papilio a favorite is its seemingly reverse trajectory from leathery into a more fruity and floral drydown.’

@Nischparfym
‘Right from the opening, you will recognize the classy Puredistance DNA. A tart bergamot swirls and mingles with a bouquet of precious flowers. Magnolia, Neroli and Heliotrope are the most dominant to this nose, lending a “classic beauty”-aura to the scent profile. As the fragrance settles, the base provides depth and character with a complex blend of leather and mysterious woods.’

@Perfumecurator
‘Papilio is airy, mild powdery, elegant, very intense, long-lasting, and wonderfully smelling. It’s undeniably classic in nature, possessing an old-world charm while still being an easy wear in modern times.’

@Despinavnt
‘For me, Nathalie accomplished something even more complex than expressing the idea of transforming: rather than having her various olfactive hues gradually emerge during the scent’s evolution, she layered them in such a way that they all co-exist, in perfect harmony, without antagonising one another.’

@NoseFragrances
‘Papilio was easily one of the most interesting and one of my favorite things that I smelled in a long day of smelling perfumes. It has the luxury, sophistication and elegance from Puredistance, with some of the fun, quirky elements that I’ve noticed in a lot of Nathalie Feisthauer’s works.’

PROFESSIONAL REVIEWS OF PUREDISTANCE No.12

Fragrantica
“I love grand perfumes. Those perfumes that are emotional, opulent, deep, complex, and somehow overwhelming in the way that they offer só much within só many layers that it seems that you’d need a lot of time to even grasp their full spectrum. But these grand perfumes are only grand if they deliver all of these feelings and emotions in an operatic shape of deceiving initial simplicity. That is art. And that is very difficult to find these days. This is what perfumer Nathalie Feisthauer managed to achieve with her creation Nº12 for Puredistance.

Nº12 is an overemotional state in the shape of scent. Such is the case for her other creations, like Nuits Indiennes and Versace Blonde. She treats Iris in a special way, it is also clear in Putain des Palaces. But the musks also play an important role, the interplay between them talks about a human body in a state of profound feeling, heatened or trembling with emotion. This becomes ehnanced with the secrets that ambrette imparts in a fragrance, transforming and distorting all the flowers into something hallucinogenic, entering the realm of fantasy. Nº12 is composed of all these bursting sensations which are sculpted into this elegant, refined and cult fragrance. It seems like I am smelling history of perfumery, condensed, revised, curated and filtered into one big perfume that tells you so many things and confidences, that you only keep a memory of what you felt when you smelled it for the first time. I have to thank Nathalie Feisthauer for the moment she gave me when smelling my sample of Nº12. It will never be forgotten.”

Colognoisseur
“I thought the opportunity to experience the maturation of a perfume was something I could not pass up. So, I peeked in weekly. Spraying some on a strip every Monday and some on skin. This began a fantastic experience as I really got to know this perfume from M. Vos and perfumer Nathalie Feisthauer as it evolved in the bottle..

The last couple of months I’ve spent watching No. 12 unfold has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve done as a perfume writer. I’ve never felt the vividness of the development of a perfume more clearly. All I had to do was to follow M. Vos’ advice and wait for it.”

“Compared to last years Rubikona, No 12 is brighter and higher on the fragrance note scale, Rubikona is more muted and dark, like silky velvet, where No 12 is like fluid tick silk in texture. Both are chypres, where No12 is more of an elegant carefree daytime fragrance and Rubikona is more serious, leaning to a evening event, although both could be worn around the clock. The blue No 12 to me is a glimmering faceted, cornflower blue saphire, framed in white gold, whereas Puredistance Gold which I associated with a saphire, is a darker, cabochon cut dark saphire framed in muted gold.

If Rubikona evoked the vision of  the “fit and proper” powerwomen, the EU President Ursula van der Leyen, No 12 is the perfume of a Queen. The queen I come to think of is, appropriately Queen Maxima of the Netherlands. As it seems from what is written in the press, a warm, colourful and sparkling personality sometimes appearing in an elegant, bohemian chic style. The color of No 12 is regal blue, like the saphires in Maxima’s imposing tiara.”

“There is no secret – I am an old soul. From time to time, I like to close my eyes and indulge myself thinking about fond memories that seem to be from another life. I am a woman who cherishes the past and carries it to the future. Maybe that’s why I fall in love with fragrances that resemble a time capsule – just like Puredistance No. 12.

Created by perfumer Nathalie Feisthauer, No. 12 found its way to Puredistance, completing the MAGNIFICENT XII COLLECTION just like a piece of a puzzle. Because there is no other perfume house that would suited better.

When I first tried the fragrance, it seemed simply otherworldly to me. A vintage beauty, like a black-blue pearl among white ones. Signature worthy and breathtakingly beautiful. A perfume I was looking for all my life without even knowing it.”

“This perfume has a different feel from some of the recent Puredistance releases I have loved. Let’s put it in musical terms. If Warszawa is one of Chopin’s Mazurkas, or if Rubikona is a lively composition of Mozart’s The Magic Flute or Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Russian Dance; then Puredistance No. 12 is a more tranquil composition such as Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata or Debussy’s Clair de Lune. Graceful, refined, classic, elegant…these are all words that come to mind while wearing this perfume.

So at the ending I am back to the beginning, a feeling of slight frustration at being unable to find the right words to describe this subtle but beautiful perfume. Reading the notes will not describe this perfume to you. Reading my description will only give you a glimmer. This is a beautiful perfume that confounds easy description. And it is a quietly confident ending to complete the circle of twelve Puredistance perfumes, the Magnificent XII, at least for now!”

“No. 12 opens with a soft, buttery bergamot that’s infused with citrus and lightly sweetened florals that go on smooth as silk. From first spritz the perfume is elegance personified as there’s nothing sharp as the now lightly warmed florals seem to infuse into your being as if the perfume isn’t just resting on your skin, but becomes part of it. The ylang-ylang is front and center initially, but hints of rose peek through every now and then.

After some time, the perfume withdraws a bit, making it rather quiet as a slightly metallic rose makes its way in replacing the ylang-ylang as the center of attention. The perfume still retains its buttery and silky finish as it starts to become warmer and grows in projection. After some more time, the butter makes way for the powder which makes the florals all that more feminine.

Continuing on, No. 12 deepens and warms with a lightly weighted mix of amber and softened sandalwood.   Overall the perfume is seamless in its development and its infusion of ingredients. As such, I’m not sure I’m giving it justice with my description.

So in the end, the best way to describe No. 12 is to envision a beauty descending slowly down a grand staircase at the start of the magnificent ball. You can’t help but turn your head and take in the radiant grace and warmth of her spirit. Let the festivities begin!”

“From this refined spiciness with a hint of a crunchy, roasted nuts undertone, Puredistance No.12 slowly begins to move in the floral direction. We can find first evidence of this still at the top of the composition where ylang and narcissus start to drape a yellow-colored ribbon scented with the creamy notes of flower petals. The heart of the new Puredistance is a real treasure chest when it comes to the bounty of textures and smells it provides to delight our senses. My nose is particularly thrilled to detect the rich & buttery goodness of orris. I can smell it very clearly with all of its earthy and powdery nuances as well. It’s the indulging aroma that makes me feel pampered.”

“She walks in beauty, like the night…So she does, smoothly, and ever so gently. Dreamy, her feet barely touching the ground, dark blue silk swirling around her ankles.

Wearing Puredistance No.12 feels dreamy, like walking on the thin line separating past from present day from night with your eyes closed, and yet in perfect flow. Like entering the state of Flow, and flying in the Zone.

You are aware of everything surrounding you, everything you do seems like it requires no effort, action and awareness are merged, and your mental and physical performance go up with such ease. It’s about feeling elegant, without an effort to BE elegant – spontaneously so, fixated on now and here, but still being aware of the past, leading to a sense of calm and rush coming from deep within a rush that is enthralling. I could see that kind of a feeling – as a color of Blue.

If you’ve ever experienced being in the Zone – you’ll know that feeling of perfection mixed with utter ease! And it is beautiful!”

Perfumart
“On the skin, the fragrance of Puredistance Nº12 opens with a lot of floral content. A richness of ylang-ylang, full of sweet and exotic facets, which merges with the narcotic absolute of narcissus and the juiciness of the mandarin orange. Immediately, it brings an aphrodisiac content. In a few minutes, a fruitier smell insists on appearing, revealing nuances that resemble banana peels. However, these nuances are drowned out by a powdery aspect, which results from the union between the butter from the iris root and the notes of rose and jasmine. At this point, Puredistance Nº12 seems to have been made just to win over the female audience.
The evolution continues to tell a story of seduction and the white floral begins to show its blue beauty. The density of the creamy woods, the chocolate heat of the patchouli, the traditional fougère aspect of the moss, all this presents itself with a slight sweetness. Now, tonka and vanilla dance on the skin, in contrast to the citrus fruits of yore. Ambroxan and ambrette extend the depth and a slightly salty sensation emerges, revealing the sweaty taste of two ecstatic bodies.
At this point, Puredistance Nº12 reaches its peak and is already proving to be more unisex. But it takes sensitivity to understand its evolution, its complexity, and its chypre and classical beauty, characteristics that fit perfectly with the brand’s concept and that reinforce its position of timeless luxury and sophistication, regardless of the commercial trends of the moment. Puredistance Nº12 is the missing sapphire in the Magnificent XII jewelry collection. A special perfume for special moments.”

ÇaFleureBon – Despina Veneti
“Puredistance No.12 opens with the allure of a supreme quality vintage perfume, the way it must have been when it was still fresh, vibrant, untouched by time. After a champagne-reminiscent greeting (a combination of bright citruses and aldehydic touches), the fragrance’s lush, exuberant bouquet starts blooming: a dewy, lemony, slightly metallic rose dominates, surrounded by a kaleidoscope of precious floral oils and absolutes (narcissus, geranium, orange blossom, jasmine, ylang-ylang), as well as subtle spice accents (soapy coriander, cozy cardamom).

An undercurrent of marvelous powderiness creates an infinitely elegant boudoir impression, resulting from the synergy between rooty orris butter, almondy heliotrope and dusty osmanthus; this powdery halo eventually leads to a feeling of fully-bodied – yet perfectly groomed – sensuousness that emanates from the skin-like muskiness (ambrette, musks), sweet woodiness (sandalwood, tonka bean, vanilla) and chypre character (oakmoss, patchouli) of the base.

A special mention is deserved for Mme Feisthauer’s restrained, tasteful use of Ambroxan (which adds a delicately saline tonality), and her exemplary use of Hedione® HC (whose airy, magnolia-like citrusy/floral vibe is uplifting the whole composition to dreamlike heights)… Puredistance No.12 reflects the blue of serene self-confidence and cool, classical beauty, its timeless charm illuminated by golden gleams of understated – but no less impressive – opulence.”

The Black Narcissus
“D was wearing Nº12, the new perfume by Puredistance. And it smelled heavenly.… I was completely entranced, and haven’t had an olfactory experience of this blissful intensity for quite a while…. Perfumer Natalie Feisthauer was commissioned with the responsibility of creating a perfume that would leave an absolute and unmistakeable impression. And it does.

On my skin, there is, admittedly, a slight, almost saline rinseishness that comes from the initial tang of oudh-like ambroxan flashed with bright mandarin, bergamot, coriander and cardamom – a fresh opening that is rather dazzling (‘quite grapefruity!’ D exclaimed) with a Montale-like gleam and immediacy, with probable nods to the Middle Eastern markets. Soon veering off course from typical expectations, though, this attention-grabbing opening accord cedes to a rather intriguing contrast between a Faberge-fougère-like accord of powdery heliotrope, orris, geranium, hedione, tonka, oakmoss and ambrette, set against a more classical, Aromatics Elixirish rose, ylang ylang, vetiver, sandalwood, and crucially, patchouli – the key ingredient in the perfume, beautifully used – to form a characterful, long-lasting modern chypre; it is an emotively rich cushioning that is distinctive and frankly gorgeous – particularly when smelled from afar.

Now this fragrance is complete, Puredistance will be henceforth referring to its full collection as ‘The Magnificent 12’, and in this instance, I certainly cannot say that I disagree. On Sunday, in all the perfumed air, I was in heaven.”

“Nathalie Feisthauer chose a composition that fits perfectly into the world of Puredistance: luxurious, rich, abundant, slightly baroque and of the highest quality…. No.12 is the essence of Puredistance, no doubt here. A beautiful rich chypre-oriental fragrance made of many aromatic absolutes, very complex and multi-layered as well as contemporary.

Its character is shaped by an extremely rich bouquet of flower essences (looking at the official list of notes, we can find here virtually all possible floral ingredient), which has a nobility given by the iris butter. This overwhelming floral-ness is set on an oriental-woody base accord, where tonka and vanilla set the tone, while the woody notes add depth and body. And there is also patchouli which – if skillfully used, as it is here – adds alot of sensuality. The prelude of the fragrance is decorated with a mixture of citrus and spices with a sensual rather than spicy character (cardamom and coriander). I appreciate the craftsmanship of Nathalie Feisthauer. Composing such a harmonious perfume out of so many such intense ingredients – it is an extremely difficult art in my opinion, especially since many of the ingredients used here are of a natural origin and are usually very complex on their own rights.

When wearing this perfume, it is impossible to be unnoticed and no to charm the surroundings. No.12 is simply overwhelmingly beautiful. Am I surprised with that? Absolutely no. After all, it is Puredistance.”

“To me No.12 represents the spirit of Puredistance and of all these years that have made history and placed Puredistance as a reference in the world of niche and author perfumery of the highest entity.

No.12 is a rare gem, complementing contrasting lines, rich in natural raw materials that add depth an authenticity to conform a perfume with an enchanting richness that I find akin to a walk under the moonlight in a starry sky where you feel really special.”

Nischparfum
“Spraying No.12, it strikes me as very elegant, classic, refined and unmistakeably Puredistance. Also, it is safe to say that compared to the latest releases from PD, like Gold and Rubikona, No.12 leans more feminine.

The blend is really complex and its hard to pick this one apart, but the opening is mostly floral with a clean, almost soapy character, probably thanks to the coriander. Progressing to the mids, the soapiness fades a bit but the fragrance remains floral. A watery rose is the main player, flanked by white florals with some orris and heliotrope lurking in the background.

The drydown is mostly musky and mossy, and patchouli and ambroxan provides a woody canvas. I really cant smell much vanilla or tonka and the probably act just as supporting notes.

Like all Puredistance fragrances, No.12 is expertly crafted and the quality of the materials used are impeccable. If you are a fan of classic PD offerings like I, Antonia and Opardu, you will surely love No.12″

Around the Unknown
“Let me start by saying after wearing Coco noir for years as my signature perfume I found a new signature worthy gem. Even the perfumer Nathalie Feisthauer felt a streak of joy when she finished off her project with Puredistance. Because, she herself wanted to recreate something dreamy, extremely close to your heart…. something that she envisions to be worth calling your signature perfume. So she presented her dream to team Puredistance back in 2018 and three years later we have Puredistance No.12.

What she managed to pull off is what I like to call once in a while “One of a kind beautiful”. It has a familiar vintage rosy scent profile that’s not only beautiful but also the way it’s been intertwined with all other ingredients to create a modern swirl is unbelievably beautiful. All the oils used in this composition exudes a powerful elixr to create an enigmatic aura that leaves your ultimate desired silliage.

I’m happy to call this splendid creation by the perfumer and the brand as my new signature perfume that deserves to be worn on special occasions if you have your unconditional love for oriental floral perfumes.”

PROFESSIONAL REVIEWS OF PUREDISTANCE RUBIKONA

The Fragrant Journey
During the blooming of all these beautiful florals there is one aspect of the scent that is a standout, and it is the sumptuous, billowy cream notes. The creamy notes give an extravagant plushness to the scent, but at the same time give it a comforting aura. The creaminess is not too sweet, just soft, as if you’ve sunk down into a pile of billowy pillows. The ylang, and also vanilla, reinforce the scent’s creamy nature.

Twenty-four hours later I can still smell Rubikona on my wrists, not surprising since it is a 28% extrait. It smell like what could be memories of a beautiful night— a box seat at the opera, a night at the ballet, a dinner out with friends; all the sort of events that have been missed in this solemn year of the pandemic. But as appropriate as Rubikona would be to grace a grand event, it is also warm and comforting, like sinking into the plushest, softest bed ever or being held in the embrace of a loved one. It manages to do a difficult thing, really. It is equally at home as a chic accessory or as simply providing casual comfort, a true definition of effortless chic.

I believe Rubikona could be an antidote to the year 2020, offering both comfort and beauty as a balm for the soul.”

Colognoisseur
“When you think red in perfume rose is probably where most begin. Mme Zarokian also begins with  rose in Rubikona. She then accomplishes a remarkable effect of turning that floral into a cut ruby. By using orris and ylang-ylang she creates a red rose which has greater depth and subtle shadings. Mme Zarokian has made some of my favourite rose accords. The one here is as good as it gets. ….

Rubikona is one of the best perfumes of the year. It is testament to the shared vision of Mr. Vos and Mme Zarokian. It feels like a natural to wear this Holiday season.”

Chemist in the Bottle
‘Rubikona with its grand bouquet of flowers has cocooning properties that cling to your skin and envelop it like a memory of a hug from a dear person. Smoothness of ylang-ylang thanks to its richness and heady, almost tropical character creates an impression of a pastry cream of top sort. A beautiful & sensual density is born from this perfume when powdery marriage of rose petals and slightly buttery iris greet our noses with undeniable charm & elegance.’

Undina’s Looking Glass
I do not get any vintage vibe from Rubikona but at the same time the moment I smell it I know that it is perfume in its classical meaning: it is polished and elegant and complete, without any rough edges or artistic imperfections. Recently I find myself gravitating towards this type of perfume – neither too loud nor a whisper, not obnoxious but with enough confidence, not Angel-like revolutionary but distinct enough not to have close dupes in my scent wardrobe. And Rubikona fits the narrative perfectly.”

Perfumaniac
‘The synergy of the ingredients and notes is evident from the first molecules reaching the nose. The aroma is initially fresh thanks to citruses but immediately with a creamy-floral background that gradually fades into the foreground and reveals itself on the skin in the heart, taking on a warmer, sunny, floral-cream character. The accord is absolutely integral and none of the ingredients stands out, although I have the impression that the orange blossom plays here a key role in giving this almost fruity bloom. Over time, other floral notes shows with Ylang at the fore and the carnation is giving a subtle spiciness. Base chord is equally coherent and above all very sensual. Its floral-woody-gourmandy character has been achieved primarily by iris, patchouli and notes of cream and vanilla. At this stage RUBIKONA becomes less playfull but more serious, elegant and refined. The last chord lasts for hours and smells almost constant. It is the quintessence and the olfactive signature of RUBIKONA. Unique and easy to remember with its sensuality and a kind of hypnotic depth.

This synergy of the ingredients is an element that a perfumer should strive for. RUBIKONA – as I can confirm after many tests – has all the features of a masterpiece.’

Cafleurebon – Despina Veneti
‘Generous and extroverted, Puredistance Rubikona bares its soul from the moment it touches my skin: a moist, fertile patchouli, infused with nectarous grapefruit, mandarin and bergamot, makes for a surprising, fascinating opening. A slightly metallic – yet unmistakably red – rose blooms, ready to receive the aromatic gifts of the other floral notes: the intrinsic sophistication of the iris, the carnal brightness of ylang-ylang, the motherly comfort of the orange blossom. At this point, patchouli feels like the impregnated earth from which all these beautiful flowers stem. The fragrance’s spiritual aspect is communicated by the meditative aroma of cedarwood, and a resinous, ambery aura. The delectable creaminess (owed to rich vanilla, fluffy musks and sandalwoody accents) that progressively takes over unveils the patchouli’s chocolatey nuances, leading to a long, pleasurable – crème chantilly-like – drydown.

Apart from being a stunning perfume, Puredistance Rubikona is also conceptually successful in reflecting the ruby’s aesthetic, symbolic, spiritual dimensions. Its glowing opulence embellishes the skin like a piece of stunning jewelry, while its warming energy comforts like a loved one’s embrace. Puredistance Rubikona makes me think of an Italian screen goddess like Sophia Loren: a beauty that’s at once earthy and extraordinary, projecting unaffected charm, warmth of spirit and voluptuousness that just can’t be helped.’

Odiferess
The pyramid structure of RUBIKONA, for me, offers its greatest treat at the close of wear. The dry down is utterly sublime. My journey lands on a soft cushiony bed of musky vanilla with a creamy hint of iris still present, offering a sophisticated nuance to the ice cream sweetness. It is at this point that I can’t keep my nose away from my wrist.

If it were to magically appear on the pages of The Essence of Perfume, I could find it in the chapter dedicated to the 70s where it would nestle alongside the syrupy patchouli archetype that was the original formulation of Givenchy Gentlemen. Maybe it could jump to the 80s and match the carnal animalic florality of YSL Kouros, or even step into 21st century to join Mugler Alien in a battle for vanilla rich headiness. Whichever era it landed in, we would certainly remember it today.’

Parfumistans blogg
‘In October 15 2020, Rubikona finally will be launched and thanks to the founder of Puredistance Jan Ewoud Vos, I’ve tested it. Does the perfume (extrait 28% perfumeoil) live up to my high expectations? Yes it really does, it exceeds them by far. This is the best constructed perfume I’ve tested for years, there are so many layers and also facetts within each layer of the perfume, a real mulitfacetted gem, the inspiration from the glowing ruby is spot on. Rubikona is now my No 1 favorite from Puredistance.’

PROFESSIONAL REVIEWS OF PUREDISTANCE GOLD

The Scented Hound
Gold opens with a rush of soft herbed and spiced bergamot that instantly fuses with the warmth of your skin. The smooth warm opening makes for the most welcoming invitation of what’s to come as from the first spritz, Gold feels as if the perfume is made just for the wearer, and the wearer alone. As the perfume settles in, Gold begins to flatten and the bergamot and herbs make way for the lightest of labdanum and jasmine bringing the flattened transition to the more rounded. Here the perfume is pulsing and hypnotic.  After quite some time, Gold begins to dry and the desert begins to emerge from the perfume. At this point, Gold feels as if the scent is wafting over the ancient dunes and mysterious spices have joined the winds from far away lands. Gold is a gift from the most ancient of kings.’

Chemist in the Bottle
‘Gold by Puredistance is a masterfully composed perfume. It has an intricate & complex style yet it feels like you can fully understand it when you wear it. It’s a sensual fragrance with undeniable charm and a mysteriously seductive energy on the skin. This composition has the power but prefers to stimulate your senses in a soft & gentle way. Even though Puredistance Gold represents an oriental family, its aura is supple. To me it’s like an arabesque painting – the perfume is an invisible brush while your skin is the canvas. Vines of scent entwine your body and become one with it. Swirls of divine goodness. Perfumer Antoine Lie gave a real soul to the fruit of his work.’

Odiferess
‘You’ll most certainly smell the Cinnamon, Pepper and Clove buds. They’ll greet you from the first spritz and dance around your olfactory bulb energetically. But then everything seems to become one, a harmonious composition where no individual fights for domination. Despite some strident notes, the overall effect is soft and mellifluous, a grand oriental with the volume turned low.

GOLD is not a ‘statement’ perfume, she’s your companionable accessory. And you’ll always feel content in her glow.’

Thescentology
‘A masterfully crafted oriental piece with a complex and full of true refinement heart. An example of elegance and sensuality with a seductive energy out of this world that reads on the skin as a caress that will rapidly charm your soul forever.

It’s noble, soft and gentle but fierce, energizing and powerful at the same time. It envelops you with the magic and mysterious attributes of gold creating a sensual and magical aura of full satisfaction and fullness in all senses.

The quality of the ingredients used is outstanding, and Antoine Lie master hand does the rest to make this scent one of the most memorable and evocative pieces released. Definitely amongst the top perfumes released in the last decade.’

Cafleurebon – Despina Veneti
“As someone who’s been working, almost daily, with photos for many years now, I often get immediate flashes of visual associations whenever I smell a perfume. Puredistance Gold’s overwhelming beauty and highly synaesthetic character amplified this effect to the maximum, filling my mind with a wide array of images right after applying it on my skin: its timeless elegance reminded me of a Horst fashion photo of a woman in a fluid white dress, fully accesorized in gold; its intricate structure brought to mind the stunning sculpted jewelry of Alexander Calder; while the luminous, arresting beauty of the composition made me think of the spectacular paintings of Klimt’s “Golden Phase”.

The quality of every natural ingredient (all supplied from L’Atelier Français Des Matières) is clearly exceptional, but it’s Monsieur Lie’s masterful handling of them that makes the fragrance truly memorable: considering the plethora of powerful individual notes, Puredistance Gold retains an admirable softness, as well as a distinctive aura of nobility.

Profoundly sensuous without being explicitly erotic, Puredistance Gold is a grand oriental with a gentle disposition, glowing energy, and an air of restrained voluptuousness; it takes its time stimulating the senses, caressing and enveloping the wearer with a slow-burning sensuality that aims for deep satisfaction, rather than a quick thrill.”

The Plum Girl
‘2019 was marked by numerous releases of new fragrances, some quote that over 3000 new perfumes were launched … Yet, in all that turmoil, ever since mid-October last year – I kept thinking about Gold by Puredistance. Since this is my first post in 2020, I thought that it would be suitable to start the new year with something as fine as Gold, to mark the beginning of new Golden Twenties, Happy Twenties, Années Folles, and to glide elegantly into the new year with class and style!

I was that impatient to get my nose on Gold! When I finally did, it left me searching for the right words. All I could say at the time is that it truly matched the concept of timeless elegance and that it is simply beautiful. A refined, smooth Oriental, Gold shines on my skin with glamourous and utterly elegant hues of a painfully beautiful fragrant work of art that is composed with a steady hand and a loving, passionate heart. The vertical line of its opening is drawn with subtle green mandarine notes, and squares of spices are added to balance it and add dimension: herbal rosemary and almost tender clove, with a touch of finely minced pink pepper. The balance shifts smoothly from citrusy to spicy, from fruity to herbal, moving in a deliberately slow, liquid rhythm.

The horizontal line that reveals itself after the initial burst of optimistic well-being is a white, floral line of delicate, creamy Jasmine reinforced with fine transitions of depth-providing labdanum and warmer glowing elements of cinnamon dust, warm and comfortable, relaxing in its inner glow, reminding me of the soft shine that golden objects have in candlelight. Pure relaxed elegance, self-conscious of its evanescent beauty, the heart of the composition that is drawing you deeper in, unfolding your folds, bright and saturating-opulent at the same time.

Over time, Gold shifts in the thick, liquid gold slow movement, releasing shiny sparks of previously incorporated notes upon the deeper glow of resinous base blocks. It is now that its Oriental side becomes more evident, with sensual swirls of resinoids just slightly colored sweet by very dry-smooth vanilla, and a volume adding,  calming performance of patchouli and Tonka. What is most important is that all these note lines and block elements form a most beautiful overall composition that’s addictive in a very smooth, unobtrusive way. This to me is equivalent of sheer, timeless and effortless elegance, and this is something Puredistance seems to provide in other creations as well, not only with Gold.

The first time I wore it I couldn’t stop smiling and humming: Gold…Always believe in your soul…You’ve got the power to know…You’re indestructible, ’cause you are – Gold! (Spandau Ballet). Now I reach for it when I need something to make me feel good about myself, to pick me up, to make me feel precious inside out, glowing gently like – Gold.’

PerfuManiac
‘The perfume shimmers with various shades and delights with many layers. In terms of character it is an oriental perfume composed in such a way that it has the characteristics of a perfect unisex.

Gold is a type of a fragrance that can be known to anyone who has already encountered luxury perfumery … except that its form is here – typical of Lie’s style – compact and modern. The composition is classic, but its character is absolutely contemporary. The fragrance – when it settles on the skin – beautifully projects and gradually transforms into a characteristic signature that appears on the skin several dozen minutes after the application. It is a surprising, great and memorable chord, full of depth. Durability and projection are not subject to discussion here. The former is all-day, the latter is on a balanced but significant level.

Gold impresses and Puredistance once again confirms its unique position on the perfume market – as a truly luxury brand, not going for quality shortcuts and offering the highest fragrance experience. Gold is a scented neoclassical masterpiece. Dealing with such a perfume is the highest pleasure for a connoisseur … For me as a person who have tested more than 1000 perfumes for last 10 years this is what I call perfume perfection. This is perfume heaven. :)’

TheBeck – Basenotes
‘GOLD follows you around cocooning you with its smell. Not heady or in your face. Sillage is about three feet, and doesn’t leave a trail, but does follow you. This wonderful smell follows you around letting off wafts for hours, and it’s still there in the morning … GOLD has an emotional impact most other perfumes omit, filling in the gaps others have missed. Not at all that masculine smelling. Not necessarily feminine either … Gold is rich, warm, and harmonious. The shading of golds really fulfills the ying and yang philosophy. Balanced to the nth degree.

We discussed what star rating we should give it. We came up with 5.5 stars. The extra .5 is given because of the unique ability to make you feel the perfume, rather than just smell it. Other perfumes have had an emotional impact, but GOLD just reset the bar. Truly a master perfume, fit for royalty, and for those of us who want to feel like royalty.’

Sergey Borisov – Fragrantica
“Gold delights with its total perfection, exceptional ideality, comprehensive impeccability. At the same time, the perfumer did not at all seek to create a new Chypre de Coty; he created a soft and warm golden shine.

Puredistance art director Jan Ewood Vos saw his new fragrance like that — as always classic, as always timeless, and golden. The chypre construction just perfectly fell into this concept.”

Parfumistans blogg
‘WOW! The latest installation in the Puredistance opus Gold is a “constantly sniffing my wrists fragrance”… Gold is a part of the “sub” colour-line whitin the Puredistance Collection, all created by masterperfumer Antoine Lie…The position of Gold on the fragrance notescale, is between the dark, mysterious Black and the bright, happy, shining White.

Gold is very well blended and one can smell the high quality of the ingredients, the mix has a sort of a velvety density, without being heavy. The fragrance is very rich and harmonious, it’s a relaxing, calming fragrance, when worn in the office, it has an anti-stress impact. I really like the resinious myrrhe-theme, and to me Gold is the other side of the coin of Puredistance Sheiduna … To sum it all up: Gold really smells amazing and I’m enjoying it very much. It’s up in my personal top three of the Puredistances, sitting there together with Sheiduna and Warszawa. Gold is the best launch of 2019 from what I have smelled so far from new releases. If I still rated reviewed fragrances, Gold absolutelly should be a 5 rated perfume.’

Bonkers about Perfume
‘Call it the power of semantic suggestion, but when I first sprayed GOLD, I had a sense of liquid slowly creeping across my skin in a soothing way, as though my skin were being dipped in fine gold leaf. And there it sat, the ultimate skin scent, with a very subtle opulence to it. GOLD is a smooth, silky, ever so slightly sweet oriental … It feels luxurious in a ‘barely there’ kind of way … This latest release is my standout favourite of the line, and I speak as someone still fiercely attached to Puredistance I.’

Hueleme Mucho
‘This year, without doubt, you have launched to of the most spectacular fragrances that I have ever smelled. In the case of GOLD I feel that you have achieved much more than a fragrance, you have created a fantastic experience at so many levels that it is unbelievable … I really hope that this masterpiece finds the right people to wear it.’

‘I am deeply loyal to Puredistance Master Perfumes. They create considered, classic and elegant perfume. The upcoming release of RUBIKONA marks 13 years of trading, in this period there have been only 12 carefully curated fragrances. In comparison to similarly placed brands this is a tiny output. …. With the arrival of a press release from Puredistance comes the knowledge that you are about to smell something that has been a year or more in the making, regardless of ‘wether it’s you’ or not, it will smell of the type of craftsmanship that graced the classic scents of a slower era.’

The Scented Hound
“You know that I believe that Puredistance is the best of the best and appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into your creations.”

The Silver Fox
“If you can find the Puredistance perfumes, sample them and see what you think, you will find an intensely luxurious, elegantly focused line, made by Jan and his fiercely dedicated team in collaboration with an intriguing and carefully commissioned family of perfumers. For now I will indulge in this beautifully arranged perfume (Puredistance SHEIDUNA) as it conjures up such a sensual and contradictory array of emotions and olfactive images. A plush and luxurious oriental that invokes an eerie, shadow-washed vignette of December’s divisive, garish and obsessively observed feast day…”

OUR SERVICE

Stelios from Cyprus
‘Hello Mary, Just to let you know that I have received the package. The giftbox and overall presentation is just lovely! I find it quite elegant and luxurious, just like the fragrance itself! I was impressed with how attentive and helpful you guys were from the beginning and now this. Words are not enough to express my appreciation. I just hope I will love the samples equally the same and be able to repay your kindness with another purchase. Thank you very very much.’

Katarzyna Biala from Denmark
‘Dear Mary, many thanks for your lovely message and the assistance with the order – i feel it reflects perfectly the spirit of the brand… I have literally smelled hundreds of scents by now but discovering Puredistance has been a real ‘coup de foudre’ for me, so while repeating my best wishes to you and the team, i’d also be grateful if you could kindly pass my words of sincere thanks to Mr Jan Ewoud Vos for creating – and maintaining – the Puredistance concept.’

Runa Kodera from Japan
‘Dear Mary, I have received 60ml WHITE with a beautiful boxed samples. Thank you for your lovely words that remind me respectable Dutch spirit told by my husband who lived in Amsterdam many years. He often tells me that Dutch people are frank and not show off , but when they find someone in trouble, they offer much generosity. Now I begin to explore your other scents. Sincerely yours.’

K. Beckman – Nevada, USA
I received your generous gift of the first 60ml flacon of M. Your correspondence brought tears to my eyes. I was simply speechless. That’s saying a lot since you already know I have something to say about everything…  It’s a rarity that  company takes the time and effort to do what you did for me. That’s why Puredistance is “pure class” in and out of the bottle. It’s really nice, in a world of texting, Twitter, and Facebook, that The Puredistance Team can compose a letter “old School,” address, stamp and mail. I thank you for that, since I’ll be 62 this year, and appreciate a nice written letter.’

Maja – Warsaw, Poland

Mariana Pavel from the United Kingdom
‘Hi Mary, I received the parcel three days ago and everything was exactly as expected: scrumptious wrap, elegant handwriting note and the most gorgeous perfumes to gift for Christmas. I found out about Puredistance when i received a bottle of Opardu a couple of years ago. Last month I had a tea at Fortnum and Mason in London and I had the opportunity to try White that I very much enjoyed. I really appreciate what you’re doing and the way you present your products. Thank you!’

Nataliia Lemets from Canada
‘I’m happy! I’ve just received my bottle of paradise:). Everything is perfect : packing, gift box and especially the perfume. I believe that other perfumes are also so good, so I’ll try them all and make my next order soon. Thank you so much your creative work.’

OUR COMPANY

Cafleurebon – Nicoleta Tomsa
‘In the ever-expanding sea of modern niche perfume brands, few houses have managed to keep a unitary vision for as many years as Puredistance. The creative force behind the house that has become synonymous with understated elegance and timeless beauty is Jan Ewoud Vos, the brand’s Creative Director, who is responsible for the entire visual and conceptual narratives of Puredistance. Every essence, every bottle, every design, and every visual—down to the very packaging—is the fruition of Jan Ewoud Vos’ singular vision.

The brand philosophy is simple, yet profound. It is a commitment to long-term thinking, ensuring that the house’s aesthetic remains consistent, nurturing its reputation as a purveyor of elegance and harmony. From his background in design and photography, he crafts a narrative that dives deep into the Puredistance DNA—offering us masterpieces rooted in timeless beauty and elegance – intimate glimpses into his world, where art deco inspirations blend seamlessly with modern flair.’

@Scent_Remix
‘I am in complete and utter awe of this fragrance house, one of the most exclusive in the world. They don’t just create perfumes, they create 𝘮𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳 perfumes. In other words, they don’t settle for anything even close to ordinary. The ingredients… the compositions… the flacon designs & artwork… and of course, the perfumers they work with- from Antoine Lie, to Cécile Zarokian, to Annie Buzantian. Everything… I mean, EVERYTHING… is next level!’

The Black Narcissus Book Review: ‘The Story of Puredistance by Birgit Oeckher’
”Having some insider insights into a perfume house’s mechanisms; its ethos, philosophy, olfactory evolution as well as a great deal of information on its founder, Jan Ewoud Vos – whose story and musings naturally form the majority of the text – is quite fascinating for a perfume lover, particularly one who genuinely likes many of the fragrances of the house at hand.”

Luxury Activist
”Popular wisdom says it is hard to get first place on the podium. When it comes to fragrances, the hardest part is to last and stay at the top of the game. With twenty years of beautiful and unique creations, Puredistance is celebrating a fantastic anniversary. The company story is marked with golden letters decade after decade to bring the very best that perfumery creation can provide. When Jan Ewoud Vos registered “Puredistance” in 2002, he already had a clear vision of what we wanted to achieve. Twenty years later, the success story continues with a beautiful fragrances portfolio within his company.

Perfumery was initially a true craftmanship and should keep it that way. At Puredistance, all perfumes are signed by hand by founder Jan Ewoud Vos and all products are assembled and finished by hand. Puredistance is about an uncompromising desire to create beauty and uniqueness. Nowadays, standardization and consumer testing harmed a lot the fragrance market. Everything ends up being similar, and fewer and fewer creators take risks to bring excellence to their work.”

The Fragrant Journey
”A new launch by Puredistance Master Perfumes is always a cause for anticipation. Unlike so many niche perfumers that flood the market with new product, Puredistancehas deliberately adopted a “less is more” philosophy. Puredistance 1 was introduced in 2007, and Rubikona will be just the eleventh perfume introduced in the thirteen year period since then. Each perfume stands on its own merit as a unique and individual scent. Each breaks new ground and offers Puredistance customers a new and distinct choice.”

Parfumistans Blogg
“True exclusivity”, the Puredistance slogan, exactly nails the sprit of this genuine house. When wearing Puredistance perfumes, I’m often get the feeling that I have to throw out a a significant part of  the rest of my fragrance wardrobe. The Puredistance perfumes all through are blended with high quality ingredients and that creates a higher and more complex dimension of perfumery … Puredistance is probably the most genuine perfumehouse  on the market when it comes to quality and a classy, conceived fragrance concept.’

The Plum Girl
“Puredistance is a luxury niche perfume brand which I respect and value: they are indeed worthy representatives of the best niche practice, the „niche“ in perfumery – as it should be… They don’t release dozens of perfumes each and every year. What they do is pay attention to perfume creation, ingredients used, leave enough time for perfecting each perfume released, have simply beautiful, elegant presentation and packaging, and – in my opinion – do things „the right way“ regarding their sales&promotions activities. Respect.”

Thescentology
I have always admired the Puredistance concept. The concept of not follow trends always creating unique and timeless pieces that can perfectly be elements of transport that stimulates our senses even evoking different times and places in the sensorial trips that they induce.

I always feel when I’m wearing a Puredistance creation that I’m wearing a completely unique perfume that has caracter and soul which translates in experience real perfumery. They are alive, brilliantly alive on the skin telling its story and acting even like a bespoke perfume interacting with your chemistry and your body and unfolding different layers every time you wear them.’

‘When you think everything was done and there is not much left to do in the perfumery market, you realize that some fragrance houses do not see it this way. When you stay true to your commitment to creation and do not get influenced by trends, you start building an unique universe and only beautiful creations can come from it. Puredistance is an amazing Fragrance house that since 2007 has been astonishing us with true daring creations.’

A Bottled Rose
‘Puredistance put the class back into luxury perfumery. It seems these days that a number of brands in this exclusive niche are focusing on the blinged-out packaging, with the fragrant contents coming as something of an afterthought. Puredistance have elegant, covetable packaging but more importantly, meticulously composed, high quality scents.’

Corinna Lammert from Germany
‘Dear Puredistance team, I was fascinated by your company and your products as of the first moment. I liked the appearance of the homepage, the philosophy and the description of the fragrances. And I liked the concentration on the fragrance itself. No side products, just the scents. Wonderful….Again, let me express my deepest gratitude for creating an exquisite scent that is too beautiful to be expressed by words and that has become such a precious companion to me in such a short time. Thank you.’

Olfactoria from Vienna, Austria (Perfume Blogger)
‘Puredistance is a house very dear to my heart. Puredistance I, Antonia and M are all in my collection, I admire the style of this house and the way its founder Jan Ewoud Vos implements his philosophy and taste to build a brand that stands for luxury and quality, quite contrary to today’s trends.’

FLACONNEUR – PER FUMUS (Perfume Blogger)
“I’m continually amazed by the absolute perfection that Puredistance exhibits with regard to the thoughtfulness of each and every one of their perfumes. High concentration of natural material in unforgettable combinations, simply said, encourage their product to not only be interesting but long lasting and unforgettable.”

Simone from Brazil
‘And this is why I simply love this brand! Not only the fragrances are beautifully composed, but because the concept of Elegance and Luxury starts with brand owner Jan Ewoud Vos and it is perpetrated by his team! Puredistance is lovely!’

Adelina Tomescu from Romania (Perfume Blogger)
‘Today I want to tell you more about the house of Puredistance, one of my favourite perfume houses. I think that a perfume is not just a blend of notes made to make you feel better. It is so much more. As I often say, when a perfumer creates something new, he blends a piece of his soul, his true identity in the composition. Yes, perfumes are liquid memories, liquid emotions made for us to love and treasure. That is why I admire houses like Puredistance, who launch something new every couple of years, not 20 perfumes a year like other Perfume Houses. You can feel the joy and the passion in every detail.’

Rachel from Canada
‘I received my package, a high-end luxury. Plus I feel pretty darn good and different. Thank you to all the team behind this work of art.

Jane Daly from Canada (Perfume Blogger)
‘Puredistance is a luxury perfume house based in the Netherlands, and they use perfumers/noses from all over the world. They are uber exclusive, and, being only parfum or extrait concentration, the entire experience with Puredistance is about luxury.’

Sashiko from Japan
“When I opened the box, I was so touched by such beautifully packed perfumes and bottle accessories, as well as magazines. All of them are utterly sophisticated, beyond my expectation. I am surprised at the texture and shape of 17.5ml bottles, they fit really comfortably in my hand. Fine mister spreads well balanced mist very skillfully, exactly for pure perfume, not for EDP or EDT. I have no words to say thank you to add another bottle of Opardu for me – I will treasure it for sure as well as I and M.”

The Candy Perfume Boy from the United Kingdom (Perfume Blogger)
‘Puredistance is an ultra-luxe and ultra-exclusive niche brand based in the Netherlands. The brainchild of Jan Ewoud Vos, Puredistance is a brand that offers exclusivity without snobbery or pretence, their perfumes are designed to be “elegant, sophisticated, timeless”

PROFESSIONAL REVIEWS OF PUREDISTANCE AENOTUS

The Scented Hound
“Aenotus greets the skin with a soft as silk citrus which glides along with a light touch of yuzu in a haze off of the skin.  Incredibly inviting, Aenotus’ opening is all about comfort and reassurance with just the right amount of sunshine.  After a while, and very quietly, the citrus notes seem to drift off as if the wind lightly carries them away.  A warm and lightly sugared accord gracefully takes center stage, once again adding a layer of perfumed comfort.  Aenotus doesn’t shout about it’s beauty, instead it confidently retreats from anything that can be construed as overt.”

Reviews by Adelina
“The opening of Aenotus is like a ray of sunshine, a burst of citruses, fresh and glowing. The heart of the fragrance features mint and blackcurrant buds, and my favorite part, the base, provides a warm, soft aura of patchouly and musks. The ingredients are exquisite, but this is no surprise for Puredistance. I also loved the visuals and the packaging. That beautiful baby blue brings so much comfort!”

Thescentology
”The most silky blast of mouthwatering citruses infused in mint and a green, floral heart acts as a catalyst to the precious musky and oakmoss base. AENOTUS first reads on the skin as a clean subtle breeze of air near the coast with the sunshine above you to end up being a weapon of seduction thanks to its juxtaposed elements.

An outstanding piece that is soft and doesn’t suffocate with pungency, bitternes or density but embrace you like your own aura does expressing yourself as the day goes by.”

The Fragrant Journey
Aenotus feels very different from the other perfumes in the Puredistance portfolio. Maybe it is closest in spirit to Puredistance 1, which I also found to combine a certain power with restraint. But Aenotus is much more subtle and personal than the other scents in the Puredistance line. Although Mr. Vos designed this as his scent it could suit a man or a woman. The scent is very long lasting and will give the wearer pleasure as well as those who move in close enough to catch the simmer.”

PerfuManiac
“Despite the rather traditional content, AENOTUS certainly distinguishes itself with its form, saturation and intensity and above-average durability, and in fact a rare combination of freshness and depth, refreshment and sensuality. It adds new content to the Puredistance perfume offer, while continuing the traditional quality for this house. It is – as usual in the case of Puredistance – a proposal for the most demanding scent lovers.”

Odiferess
“AENOTUS is a complex and contradictory scent. Fresh and exuberant yet earthily sensual, vibrantly light and softly dark, freshly soaped cleanliness and morning after filth. What is intriguing about the contradiction is that it was created as a signature scent. The purpose of which is to define the personality and presence of its wearer. The most fascinating people are complex individuals who’s contrasts attract our curiosity and desire to know them. If AENOTUS defines Jan Ewoud Vos, I’d really like to meet him…”

Chemist in the Bottle
“At the beginning of Aenotus lies a bounty of citrus fruit, a true treasure of the Mediterranean. Announced by a super realistic lemon note that you can not only smell with your nose but you can almost taste it in your mouth too. It gives off a lot of mouth-watering juiciness that blends together sweet, sour & bitter elements. Its smell is very rich and saturated for a citrus, almost oily. You can easily identify a whole fruit – zest, juice, pulp and albedo.”

Fragrantica – Sergey Borisov
“In addition to the fact that the citrus fragrance was created in parfum extrait concentration, the trend to create cozy and quiet fragrances is very interesting. It seems that after the gourmand and oriental fragrances with maxi-sillages and lasting hyper-power, it’s time to go mini, time to shorten the sillages and to reduce olfactory aggressiveness and stress towards others. The time for conscious perfumery has come.”

The Plum Girl
“The final phase of perfume, its character when „all the guests have left“ is something that matters to me. While initially testing AENOTUS, I first sprayed it on a blotter and left it standing on a paper clip, on my desk for two weeks – just like that… When I came back to it, I was amazed: its drydown was still simply beautiful!

I wrote The Wind of Change: this fragrance is different than all the other perfumes in Puredistance range up to now. I see it also as a sign of „returning to old values“ trend in niche perfumery, in the sense of taking time and creating quality perfumes that „sing“ – not shout and scream at the top of their voice – out of tune, nor meek wannabe niche pretenders, either.

Those that give you a reason to think about them, listen to their whisper and murmur, make you daydream, take you places, make you feel good about yourself. The sort of fragrances you wear for yourself and not for somebody else, to express yourself and not to impress others. Intellectual, pensive fragrances, beautiful works of art, fine and timeless creations.
Time will show, but AENOTUS has all the elements that can easily make it a – classic.”

PROFESSIONAL REVIEWS OF PUREDISTANCE WARSZAWA PERFUME

The Scented Hound
“Warszawa unfolds like a day’s journey; the perfume starts bright and sweet like the dawn of a new day.  As the day wears on, the spice of the florals add life and energy and then finally, the perfume provides a finishing crescendo as if entering the grand ball at the end of the evening.  This is where the perfume settles into its final incarnation; a beauty that is unique as the noble city that bears its name.”

Odiferess
“WARSZAWA is not a note list. It’s a grand composition, symphonic, multi-faceted. You can’t smell a dominant feature ingredient, simply a gargantuan perfume. It’s overwhelming, aspirational and bloody gorgeous!”

Eiderdownpress
“While my favorite perfume in their collection remains the green-floral scent Antonia (its herbal beauty reminds me of the original, ’70s version of Herbal Essences shampoo, and that is no trite comparison), the company’s latest offering, WARSZAWA (pronounced var-SHAV-uh) is another dazzling green-floral that is likely to win over many a jaded heart in the perfume community.”

Megan in Sainte Maxime
“The perfume is unabashedly floral with violet candy tones in the opening, coating the grapefruit and provides a suggestion that something wonderful is going to emerge cocoon like from its folds. The sweetness tones down and a really lovely floralcy emerges. Jasmine in particular but it’s very well blended with a cloud like texture that makes you wonder if you really are smelling what is listed in the notes.”

Cafleurebon
“WARSZAWA is an éblouissant floral chypre, every bit as floral as a chypre can be. There are no timid blossoms amidst lusty feral jasmine and ebullient broom. In folktales, the broom-flower is used to cast a narcotic sleeping spell; it is among my favorite absolutes. Broom has a rich scent profile – honeyed, herbal/floral/fruity, the stuff of dreams. Orris concrete’s waxy silvery irones impart a woody violet hue, bestowing yet another layer of floralcy and contributing to its charmeuse-like texture.”

Perfume Posse
“Puredistance Warszawa is supposedly an homage to the smells of Warsaw, Poland. I’ve never been there, but if it smells like this I may relocate. Puredistance Warszawa is almost unbelievably lush, heavy with white flowers, galbanum and violet. It’s very long lasting and very, very feminine. It’s the sort of thing you would wear to a formal ball.”

The Black Narcissus
“Elegant, full, wistful and yet refulgent, it is a velveteen, interior perfume reminiscent of Robert Piguet’s Fracas from 1948 in heft and emotional texture, while substituting the tuberose for a long lasting jasmine and styrax musk accord that smells simultaneously rich and strangely haunting; the patchouli, and vetiver, orris-touched base weighting the more flirtatious violet and galbanum top like a floor touching green velvet evening dress; nostalgic, perhaps, but not old-fashioned, reminiscent indeed of the high aristocratic society the perfume is intending to evoke, old money that has lost its crown but not its traditions, celebrated at champagne soaked events held behind closed doors, unconnected – quite deliberately – to the twenty first century that lies beyond.”

Luxury Activist
“Puredistance remains true to its olfactory universe by going even further into the direction of traditional chypre. After a couple of hours, it is a true delight to almost rediscover a true Orris butter on skin. Such a luxury nowadays.”

Colognoisseur
“The opening is a silk glove being drawn along a sinuous arm as candied violet and grapefruit provide a smooth opening. A big green emerald flare of galbanum transforms it into something more extroverted. The floral heart accord is made up of a deep jasmine absolute paired with a rich orris butter. Just those two notes would have been spectacular, but M. Lie adds in the broom flower which provides its own twists and turns as it swirls through the more extravagant florals.”

A Bottled Rose
“It’s a full-bodied, kaleidoscopic fragrance that doesn’t have clear demarcations of individual accords or a top/heart/base. Puredistance fragrances tend to be supremely well blended and this is no exception.”

Parfumistans Blogg
“Warszawa is a fragrance with many layers and interesting twists. Later in the dry down an almost balsamic texture appears, wrapping the wearer in a gentle and mysterious skinscent.”

Bonkers about Perfume
“So have Puredistance delivered their brief of ‘a dreamy world of old-time chic? Absolutely they have. WARSZAWA is dreamy in the same way that Opardu is, without having the extra dimension of muskiness in that scent. In its unashamed, blowsy femininity, WARSZAWA seems the anthithesis of perfumes made today – or since the 80s, perhaps.”

The Plum Girl
“Wear it to seduce yourself, to feel good in your skin. With a hint of Slavic melancholy in your eyes…”

PROFESSIONAL REVIEWS OF PUREDISTANCE SHEIDUNA PERFUME

The Scented Hound
“Welcome to the bazaar…Sheiduna’s opening is full of light and glistening peppery citrus and fruits that feel as if they were dried on top of a warm, sun-kissed sand.  The perfume is dry, but it has an undertone of a rounded vetiver that sails along the top of an ambered plane tinged with the most beautiful incense.”

“As it happens from time to time, when I really like a perfume it can easily create a vision in my head; sometimes something more. It happened when I kept wearing Sheiduna. I could envision a deep sea of sand and a sun, shiny and bright like a ruby, that is about to bid farewell as the day comes to an end. And blowing wind that rouses the sand, causing the waves of dunes to slowly rearrange.”

‘A scent that will captivate you and seduce you with its golden dress and hypnotic sensuality like a hot desert breeze taking you into an olfactory journey.’

“The first spritz of Sheiduna was a complete surprise, absolutely brimming with sunshine. This distinctive burst was not your common bergamot variety. It was sharp, intensely sweet and exuberant. Traditionally, an opening of this sort is short lived. This was not the case with Sheiduna. The sublime brightness lingers and then slowly mellows, but never completely subsides.”

“This mesmerizing oriental fragrance instantly made me think of a caravan lead by a nomad in the desert. He is heading home to his beautiful young wife. The shapes of the dunes in the sunset remind him of her as he approaches the destination. When he arrives, the dark sky has a million stars. They drink tea in silence as he admires her beauty, and she shyly hides away from his gaze.”

“There’s an underlying patchouli aroma that gives it character, a hint of spice to make it jump off the skin. And by the one hour mark, SHEIDUNA reaches its resting place in the dry down. It will shift no longer, content in its final form of mellow prettiness. This is, much like WHITE before it, a wonderful perfume for a special woman. I can’t wait to pull it out more frequently around the holiday season.”

“I must tip my hat to Mr. Vos and Mme Zarokian for taking this path for I found uncommon beauty within this arid Oriental.”
Puredistance SHEIDUNA featured in Colognoisseur’s Best fragrances of 2016: “I appreciate brands which are willing to change a well-known architecture. Creative director Jan Ewoud Vos and perfumer Cecile Zarokian take the traditional Oriental and dry it out with abandon. Never has the Orient seemed so modern.”

“Sheiduna is a multi-faceted fragrance. Being both perfume extrait and an oriental, these rich and complex facets come alive on the skin with all of their majesty in tact.”

“As soon as Sheiduna hit my skin, it fractured into a kaleidoscopic assemblage of effects with textured and refined impact; I could feel the quality of materials and chromatics of olfaction, the low key way the notes and chords had been combined to produce a scent of emotive suggestion.”

“Occasionally a perfume comes along that makes me see colors when the first notes hit. Such is the case with Sheiduna, the first oriental fragrance from Puredistance. When I close my eyes, I smell fire opal: a kaleidoscope of warm greens, gold and red orange.”

“A golden glow of mandarin, lemon, blackcurrant and aldehydes portrays the moment when the sun embraces the horizon. As sand lifted by wind, a whirl of warm spicy notes unveils the purple rose in the heart of the fragrance.”

“To me, Sheiduna follows the life cycle of a woman. The powerful blast of ripe, juicy tangerines that I have smelled in the first half an hour made me think of childhood, the stage in wich a girl enjoys the simple things, as she forges her path through life.”

“When I first wore Sheiduna I imagined a woman in a negligee sitting in her room, maybe about to make some mischief. The alluring Elizabeth Taylor in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof along with the handsome Paul Newman immediately came to mind in that languid Southern heat.  There’s a defiant, pillowy, plumped up feel to Sheiduna that feels all high gloss yet comforting at the same time. We’re talking a bit of old school glamour here, it’s sensual but not in an obvious way.”

Perfumowy Blog
“SHEIDUNA , however, is in its nature a more balanced, harmonious and subtle. Less experimental and more classic. Goes on the skin very slowly, becoming a long-term scent of near-skin, where traces of rose are attached to the skin.”

Suzanne’s Perfume Journal
“Altogether, this is the scent of sophistication. That difficult-to-describe essence that goes beyond natural beauty is what I recognize when I see a Jessica Chastain film, and it’s what I find in Sheiduna.”

“You’ve got to meet her in silence. She might seem orientally mystic but cold and distant, yet you can sense there is so much more under that self contained first impression. When I took the second breath images and scents swirled around my head, extracting bits and pieces connected to my olfactory memories…desert!”

“All in all, it’s a flawless fragrance, unisex, modest yet opulent with strong rave on skin.”

Bonkers about Perfume
“SHEIDUNA is opulent and elegant and mysterious and completely its own thing. If you are happy to wait a little while, SHEIDUNA soon gets into more classical ‘desert oriental’ territory. I LOVE the drydown in particular, when the scent becomes a fuzzy caressing tingle of ambery incense.”

“The scent is a complex amalgam that at once beguiles and intrigues with its spicy oriental melody which recalls the splendor of orientals proper of a bygone era. At the same time it’s very Middle-Eastern in feel, seen through the porthole of sophisticated French perfumery. Despite the Dutch origins of the Puredistance brand, their sophistication is like a magpie, collecting the most ecclectic elements of a cosmopolitan aesthetic.”

“Sheiduna starts with a burst of a peppery note, maybe it’s the clove/incense. Soon this fizzy intro steps back and a beautiful sort of deep, lush citric accord appears grounded in a light rosy touch. The tangerinenote appears very realistic, the best interpreation of tangerine I have smelled so far.”

PROFESSIONAL REVIEWS OF PUREDISTANCE WHITE PERFUME

“Memories from the past flooded through me, and with the memories came the intense feelings of happiness. I was seeing other places and times, and above all, smiles. I was happy, we were so happy, and my heart ached… I opened my eyes with tears rolling down on my cheeks. WHITE had opened a floodgate of emotions that have been waiting to be released.”

“WHITE is everything that perfume should be ….. Words escape me …. WHITE is perfumery at its best and is easily my favorite from the Puredistance line. That’s quite the statement because all of their perfumes are incredible in their own right. My suggestion: If you want to live the perfume dream, WHITE is the perfect place to start. C’est magnifique!”

“The longer your wear Puredistance White the more attention it seems to get because I’m smelling my wrist more often right now ….. the sandalwood essence that was used in this Master Perfume is simply divine. It does feel woody but at the same time the surface of the wood is so shiny, smooth and polished that it possibly could’ve been mistaken for silk fabrics …. so addictive. Puredistance team wanted to create a fragrance that will make everyone feel instant happiness upon sniffing this new perfume. In my opinion… they nailed it!”

“I am pretty sure you will not find any other perfume of this quality and with that ingredients anywhere else in the world. If that will be so and if the consumers realize that they can have the ultimate perfume production, I predict that White could become Puredistance’s bestseller of the existing six”

Fragrantica by Serguey Borisov
“Puredistance White is one of the most comforting feminine fragrances, warm and embracing …. It’s a surprisingly pleasant smell without edges …. my wife is very fond of it, and in my family we immediately began to recognize the smell. You know, I even conducted an experiment involving my one-year-old daughter out of curiosity (even better that she does not talk yet). I held her in my arms and brought perfumed spots on my hands to her nose for short periods of time (just to breathe). Would there be some reaction? Out of the four floral-powdery basenotes my daughter smiled only once, and it was—you guessed it—at Puredistance White!”

“The process to create WHITE took over one year and probably this is a big part of the success, Puredistance never stresses new perfumes into the market, the creators take the time needed. Therefore the Puredistance line is one of the most solid lines in the market, there are no misses (so far) just solid, sophisticated, very high quality perfumes and I’m very fond of them all …. WHITE is a sophisticated fragrance, surprisingly easy to wear taken its elegance and the expensive, high quality ingredients in to account. It would the perfect perfume for the bride of the coming Swedish royal wedding in June … It’s as timeless and versatile as for example Chanel No 22. The longevity is very good, 12h+ and one or two spritzes is enough …. WHITE is so well crafted that it makes me considering selling off my less well crafted florals.

Perfume-Smellin’ Things
The sixth release from Puredistance follows the well received Black which was also authored by Antoine Lie, and White could not be more aptly named; it is very bright, dazzling even, the perfume equivalent of looking into the sun….. my own immediate response to smelling it was a delighted smile. … The final result is a floral perfume of impressive lasting power; after all, it a concentrated extrait formulation. It touches on some of the stylistic themes of earlier Puredistance fragrances while remaining distinctive in its own right; it is as abstract as Puredistance I if not even more so; a soft rustle of leafy green recalls Antonia; and its structure is as infallible as Opardu. Puredistance does not launch a new fragrance until it has been perfected, and White is a stellar addition to the line.”

PROFESSIONAL REVIEWS OF PUREDISTANCE BLACK PERFUME

Thescentology
‘In its deep and complex drydown, it throws floral elements with a slightly powderiness and resins with amber touches, so the perceived leather or better said, suede accord could be the result of an overdose of labdanum with an iris touch. Semi-sweet and spicy vanilla and tobacco pipe nuances are married with precious woods and patchouli leaves at the base alongside musks that blends and melts with your skin as a silk handkerchief hugs your neck.’

The Fragrant Man
‘For me, as with any fume it is always more about the blend, the composition, rather than individual notes as notes behave differently when made into accords. The BLACK accords smell of highly polished leather turning into suede then into a chamois generously splashed with Laotian Oud, a dab of cresol and sprinkled with crumpled patchouli leaves. If I was to use only one word it would be beautiful… This is one of the 7 wonders of the modern perfume world.’

Perfume Nerd
‘Puredistance Black makes me believe that I live in the age of campfires and legends… Love. Adventure. One thousand and one nights. Beauty. Filled of joy with the knowledge that from time to time such a masterpiece perfume comes in my way. Puredistance Black is also one of the absolutely best fragrances I have tried in a long time. It was a true inspiration to try it, in fact so much that I felt like writing again, thank you very much, Puredistance Black.’

What Men Should Smell Like
‘Puredistance’s approach to this primordial theme is a perfume that dances in shadows. Soft and textural, it feels like perfumed velvet, wrapped around a crystal well of jet black ink.’

Perfumeshrine
‘Puredistance has wisely limited its aromatic outpour to one fragrance per year (or even less frequently) choosing to differentiate itself from the many niche brands who dilute their essence in too many simultaneous launches. It has also set the bar pretty high with their stupendous masculine M fragrance and their graceful I and Opardu perfume for women, so expectations are understandably high for their newest release. Black doesn’t disappoint, especially since it fills a void in the line that we hadn’t realized was there. It’s different enough from the leathery and attention-grabbing M fragrance with its elegant 1960s character, and projects as something darker, untamed by the ways of the civilized world… The company doesn’t give away any of those raw materials. I absolutely love this; it will make reading and hearing impressions by those who will subsequently test Puredistance Black a real treat, as the mind often interferes with what the nose perceives.

Chemist in the Bottle
‘The longer I have BLACK on my skin the more I like it! Few minutes after the mark of 1st hour some smoky layers are revealed. First there’s a pale incense note. Could be a silver incense. But just a quarter later the composition gets smokier with frankincense I suppose. What I smell now is rather spiritual, meditative and churchy. There’s an in-depth harmony to the scent. The spicy notes that appeared earlier are still around, seamlessly blended into unity…  It’s character is elegant, sophisticated and stylish. Puredistance presented the best of good taste with BLACK. Elegant perfumes are important part of my life. I like the story they tell, or a story I can make while smelling them. Puredistance BLACK is no exception. It just feels like this perfume was made especially for me. It’s charming, mysterious and romantic. And that amazing lasting power of almost 16 hours! There are not many brands who create perfume this way.’

Sorcery of Scent
‘I would love to describe the scent to you, but that would be telling. Let me just say it’s good. Really, really good. I urge you to experience it for yourself.’

The Luxury Activist
‘The first seconds are truly breath-taking… The fragrance really wraps warmly your skin and procures a soft yet sophisticated aura…  Elegancy is provided with amazing facetted notes.’
